What is Niswab?

Niswab is the minimum amount of wealth a Muslim must possess before being obligated to Zakat, a form of obligatory charity. It serves as a threshold and once a person's wealth exceeds this limit, they are required to pay Zakat on their eligible assets.

How is Niswab determined?

Niswab is generally determined by the value of gold and silver. It is often calculated based on 85gms of gold or 595gms of silver. Since gold and silver are not always used currency. The value of Nisab is often converted to the local currency equivalent to reflect its current market value.

How is Zakat calculated?

Once a Muslim wealth exceeds or hits the Niswab threshold, they are required to calculate their Zakat usually at a rate of 2.5% of their eligible assets.

What is the purpose of the Niswab?

Niswab ensures that Zakat is only paid by those who have a certain level of wealth recognizing those with limited means and not expected to contribute.

Which Niswab is gold or silver?

Silver the Islamic relief advises its donors to use the silver (which is almost always a lower threshold to gold) because this allows for a greater amount to be eligible for Zakat, which means more helpful deserving Zakat recipients.

Who is not eligible for zakat?

The recipient must not belong to your immediate family, your spouse, children, parents, and grandparents cannot receive your Zakat.

Can a wife give Zakat to her husband?

If her husband falls under one of the eligibility categories regarding Zakat his wife is not allowed to donate her Zakat to him because it's like donating it to one self.

The Niswab of fruits and crops is 750kgs.

What is the Niswab of cattle, Camel, and goats/ sheep?

The Niswab of cattle is 30 cattle and for Camel is 5 Camel then for the sheep or goat is 40 goats or sheep.
